How to fix game stutter when turning your mouse

If your FPS drops the moment you flick or turn your mouse fast, this fixes it.

Does your game run smooth when you're looking straight, but drop FPS the moment you swing your mouse to turn? That's your mouse. Newer gaming mice can send input to your PC thousands of times a second which can be very intensive on the computer. Setting your mouse polling rate to 500 Hz instead of 1000/2000/8000/etc fixes it.

Find your mouse's brand below and follow the steps - they may not be exact steps due to updates of the mouse software, but probably similiar.

Razer

  1. Open Razer Synapse
  2. Click your mouse
  3. Go to the Performance tab
  4. Change Polling Rate to 500 Hz

If you use a wireless dongle (Viper V2/V3 Pro, DeathAdder V3 Pro, Cobra Pro, Basilisk V3 Pro), the dongle shows up as its own device - change the polling rate on the dongle, not the mouse.

Logitech

  1. Open G HUB
  2. Click your mouse
  3. Click the crosshair icon on the left (that's the DPI/sensitivity page)
  4. Change Report Rate to 500

If you use per-game profiles, change it in your Default profile AND every game profile, or the game profile will override it.

SteelSeries

  1. Open SteelSeries GG
  2. Go to the Engine tab
  3. Click your mouse
  4. Click the Settings gear
  5. Change Polling Rate to 500 Hz
  6. Click Save at the bottom right (Engine doesn't save automatically)

Corsair

  1. Open iCUE
  2. Click your mouse from the Home page
  3. Click the gear at the bottom-left of the device page (Device Settings)
  4. Change Polling Rate to 500 Hz

Wireless mice like the M75 Air or Dark Core Pro have a separate Wireless Polling Rate row - change both.

Glorious

  1. Open Glorious CORE
  2. Click your mouse
  3. Go to the Performance tab
  4. Change Polling Rate to 500 Hz

If the option isn't there, update your mouse firmware from CORE first.

ASUS

  1. Open Armoury Crate
  2. Go to Devices and click your mouse
  3. Go to the Performance tab
  4. Change Polling Rate to 500 Hz and click Apply

Pulsar

  1. Open Pulsar Fusion (or use fusion.pulsar.gg in your browser)
  2. Click your mouse
  3. Go to the Performance page
  4. Change Polling Rate to 500 Hz

Wait a couple of seconds for your mouse to reconnect. If you use a 4K/8K dongle, change the polling rate on both the mouse and the dongle.

HyperX

  1. Open HyperX NGENUITY
  2. Click your mouse
  3. Go to the Performance tab
  4. Drag the Polling Rate slider to 500 and click Apply

Zowie / BenQ and other button-only mice

Flip your mouse over. If you see a small button on the underside with numbers next to it (usually 125 / 500 / 1000), press it until it lands on 500. That's it - no software needed, the setting is saved on the mouse itself. Zowie EC / FK / ZA / S / U series all work this way.

No brand software

Some older or budget mice don't have any software or polling rate button. In that case there's no clean way to change it in Windows - your best option is to switch to a mouse whose software lets you set it.

Test it

Load into the game and do the fast turn that used to stutter. If it stays smooth, you're done.

Still stuck?

If your FPS still drops when turning after changing polling rate to 500, open a ticket with your mouse model and what software you used to change it.
