My card was declined at checkout

Common reasons cards get rejected at our checkout and what to try.

Updated Jul 27, 2026· Billing & Subscriptions

If your card gets declined at checkout, the problem is almost always at your bank, not on our end. Here's what usually causes it and what to do.

Common reasons

Your bank blocked the charge. Some banks flag unfamiliar merchants as high-risk and decline automatically. This is by far the most common cause.

3D Secure verification failed. Your card supports it but you didn't complete the SMS or app confirmation in time, or the confirmation was refused.

Card details entered wrong. Wrong CVC, expired card, mismatched billing address, or a typo in the number.

Region blocking. Some cards are restricted to purchases in specific countries or currencies.

Fraud protection flag. Your card sees this as an unusual purchase pattern (new merchant, unusual amount, VPN mismatch) and blocks it.

What to try

  • Retype your card info carefully.
  • Try Apple Pay or Link instead of typing the card.
  • Call your bank or use their app to approve the pending transaction.
  • Try a different card.
  • Switch to crypto. If your bank keeps blocking us, crypto skips the bank entirely. See How to pay with cryptocurrency.

Repeated declines

If you've tried multiple cards and everything is being declined, Stripe may have flagged your device or IP for repeat attempts. Wait an hour before trying again, or switch to crypto.

If you've waited and it's still declining, contact support with:

  • The rough time you tried
  • The last 4 digits of the card
  • Any error message shown

We can look up the failed transaction on our end and see if there's a specific reason.
